Goldman Sachs plans to double down on the “foundational elements” of its infrastructure to execute its AI strategy.

The $2.1 trillion financial services giant is accelerating investments in cloud migration and in the “accuracy, completeness and timeliness of our data,” Chief Financial Officer Denis Coleman said during today’s first-quarter earnings call.

“These investments are critical to optimizing the deployment of AI solutions across the firm, which will allow us to unlock greater productivity and efficiency opportunities over time,” he said.

The investments support the buildout of One Goldman Sachs 3.0, which is intended to drive long-term growth, Coleman said.

One GS 3.0 is an operating model that embeds AI into processes including compliance, sales, lending and risk management, according to the company.

AI in cybersecurity

In addition to AI’s productivity and efficiency promise, Goldman Sachs is among the FIs exploring AI to address cybersecurity risks, Chief Executive David Solomon said during the call, noting the “rapid progress” of LLMs.

“With the help of the U.S. government … we are very focused on supplementing our cyber and infrastructure resilience, and this is part of our ongoing capabilities that we have been investing in,” he said.

The investment bank is working closely with Anthropic and other security vendors to “harness frontier capabilities wherever possible,” Solomon said.

“As technology evolves, we have to continue to upgrade for cyber risk to make sure we’re at the forefront of that,” he said.

By the numbers

Goldman reported in Q1:

  • Revenue increased 14% year over year to $17.23 billion;
  • Communications and technology expenses grew 15% YoY to $583 million;
  • Efficiency ratio clocked in at 60.5%, down 10 basis points from 60.6% in Q1 of 2025; and
  • Headcount remained essentially unchanged compared to the end of 2025.

Shares of Goldman Sachs [NYSE: GS] were up 1.7% from market open to $890.79 as of market close today. It has a market capitalization of $262.8 billion.

Earnings continue April 14 with JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup and Wells Fargo.
