ORLANDO, Fla. — AI agents could soon be moving money from one bank account to another without being queued by the accountholders.

“I think the agentic world, where agents are actually acting on consumers’ behalf, is probably going to happen in the next two to three years,” Zach Perret, co-founder and chief executive at data network fintech Plaid, said during a March 17 panel at CBA Live 2025. “A lot of the fintechs are trying to build these experiences today.”

Fintechs developing AI agents for automated transactions include:

  • Agentic AI solutions provider Skyfire;
  • IT service provider Quantoz; and
  • Stablecoins payments company Circle.

Automated money movement isn’t new.

Bank of America’s AI-driven digital assistant, Erica, for one, can already be tasked to transfer funds between accounts, Holly O’Neill, president of retail banking at $3.3 trillion Bank of America, said during the panel.

However, O’Neill disagreed with Perret, saying a “full agentic world” isn’t likely to occur for another decade.

“It’s a very big leap to go to Erica just automatically transferring that money. I think [automated fund movement] will be there for people who want it to be there,” she said. But there’s likely to be a generational divide when it comes to consumers embracing the capability, she added.
