5 noteworthy numbers in Anthropic's IPO filing

Anthropic is gearing up for one of the biggest IPOs of the modern era, and investors are dissecting the long-awaited S-1 to get a grasp of the company and the future of the AI trade. Despite a meteoric rise in revenue, Anthropic is nowhere close to profitability, according to its Oct. 26 S-1 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company posted a net loss of $80.75 billion for the first half of the year compared to a net loss of $42 billion in all of 2025, according to the S-1. "We have a history of net losses and may not generate sufficient revenue to achieve or sustain profitability in the future," according to the S-1. Anthropic also has spending commitments or future minimum payment obligations of approximately $750 billion stretching out to 2045, however it holds nearly $112 billion in cash. "These commitments represent substantial fixed obligations," the company wrote. To meet these obligations, the customer base must grow and revenue must expand rapidly to generate necessary cash flows. While the company might not turn a profit in the short or medium term, there are a lot of optimistic numbers in the S-1 filing that show a trend toward growth. The company reported the following: Revenue grew by 3,100% in five quarters Revenue reached $11.6 billion in Q2, up from $800 million during the corresponding period last year, and up from $376 million in Q1 2025, according to the S-1. The number of Anthropic customers spending more than $100,000 per year for AI models jumped 1,152% year over year Companies that are spending over $100,000 a year on Anthropic’s AI models grew to 11,900 in Q2. Agentic tools like Claude Code are a major driver behind this growth, according to the filing. Claude Enterprise users that did not use Claude Code spent less than $75 per month on average. Every Fortune 10 company is an enterprise client of Anthropic, the company stated. JPMorgan , Citi and Goldman Sachs are among Anthropic’s FI clients. Compute cost versus revenue Despite concerns about rising token costs, Anthropic has reduced its compute cost to generate $1 in revenue to 48 cents, from $1.48 last year. 4. 80% of Anthropic revenue is token-based Anthropic’s business model is mainly consumption-based rather than subscription-based – the more you consume, the more you pay. In first half, roughly 80% of its revenue was consumption-based, according to the S-1. While the pricing model works for now, the company spelled out risks associated with this structure including that clients can reduce or cease usage at any time due to budgeting or other factors unrelated to its products 5. Low concentration among customers Anthropic’s revenue streams are not dependent on a handful of clients. No customer accounts for more than 10% of revenue, and its top five clients account for 25% of revenue, according to its S-1. AI competitor Nvidia , by contrast, gets 60% of its revenue from its top four customers, which it declines to name.
