UniCredit Poland is implementing tech firm Flagright’s AI-native platform for financial crime compliance, continuing the trend of FIs increasingly turning to AI to combat money laundering and fraud.

FIs “have to evolve based on how the entire industry is evolving technologically,” Madhu Nadig, co-founder and chief technology officer at Flagright, told FinAi News. “The problem to solve is essentially the same for us [as 10 years ago]; it’s just that we have more tools at our disposal — as do the threat actors.”

The Polish arm of multinational banking group UniCredit, based in Milan, Italy, plans to complete the initial production rollout of San Francisco-based Flagright’s platform by the end of September, Konrad Krupinski, financial crime prevention owner at UniCredit, told FinAi News. The two companies have been working together on the project’s preliminary phases since the first quarter of this year.

The transaction was announced in July. Both companies have declined to disclose the cost.

Flagright’s platform uses AI for real-time transaction monitoring, customer screening, customer risk scoring and case management, according to Nadig.

In assessing vendors, Krupinski said, Flagright stood out from competitors because of its:

  • Unified coverage with anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing and fraud prevention processes in a single layer;
  • Cloud architecture with AI forensics for automated evidence collection and a no-code rule engine for rapid compliance adjustments; and
  • Sub-second real-time detection and significant reduction in false positives.

Flagright announced in June that it had raised $12.5 million in a series A funding round led by Infinity Ventures.

Flagright previously raised $4.3 million in seed funding in March 2025, led by Frontline Ventures, and $3.3 million in pre-seed funding in July 2022, led by Moonfire Ventures.

Register here for the FinAi Lending Summit, set for Oct. 7-8 in Las Vegas. This inaugural event will include speakers from Fifth Third and Capital One, as well as a fireside chat with Piermont Bank founder and Chief Executive Wendy Cai-Lee.
