JPMorgan Chase Chief Executive Jamie Dimon is calling on Anthropic to release details of its Mythos AI model to allow the industry to assess it and mitigate potential risks.
During the webinar, “The Briefing: Financial Services by Anthropic,” today, Dimon applauded Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei‘s transparency and warnings to the industry about Mythos’ capabilities — but asked for more.
“The right thing, [for] Dario and Anthropic [to do is] to lay it out, give people a chance to study it, understand the vulnerabilities, come up with plans so we can handle it,” Dimon said.
Mythos, an advanced AI model developed by Anthropic, has been licensed to a handful of major banks and government agencies for applications including fraud detection, cybersecurity systems and portfolio optimization, according to Anthropic.
However, Mythos’ tremendous capabilities have also raised concerns about systemic risks if the technology were to be misused or compromised, according to an April 7 Anthropic.
Mythos is threatening the cybersecurity of the biggest financial institutions and financial infrastructure companies, according to Anthropic, the tool is powerful enough to break into one of the most secure cyber defenses on the planet, the company said.
To secure Mythos, Anthropic launched Project Glasswing which brings together tech firms including Microsoft, Google, Apple and AWS, to identify vulnerabilities in the software, according to Anthropic.
Additionally, JPMorgan, the U.S. Treasury and the Department of Commerce have access to Mythos, according to Anthropic.
While government regulators have been pushing for greater oversight and risk reduction measures around Mythos, Dimon emphasized the need for FI collaboration.
“We don’t all need to burn the same tokens [for the same problem],” Dimon said. “We can all fix that for everybody.”
He urged a focus on securing critical infrastructure, not just for large banks but for the entire financial system.
While acknowledging AI’s transformative potential to “cure some cancers” and “make life much better,” Dimon cautioned about the transitional risks as the technology rapidly evolves.
By sharing information about Mythos, Anthropic can enable the industry to address vulnerabilities and ensure stable and beneficial deployment of AI in finance, he said.
