Mobile wallet usage is increasing across the globe, but for countries with more fleshed-out credit card networks, that growth is still slow.

This is according to the second part of the Global Consumer Survey: Consumer Trust and Security Perceptions report conducted by ACI Worldwide and the Aite Group. The study of 6,035 consumers around the world, released yesterday, saw a rise of mobile wallet consumer use in 2016.

However, countries that already had entrenched credit card networks, like the USA, the United Kingdom, and Canada, saw a much slower growth than countries without, like Mexico and Brazil.

In the case of the U.S., consumer use of mobile wallets grew from 7% in 2012 to 17% in 2016. Compare that to Mexico’s growth, where consumer use grew from 11% in 2012 to 38% in 2016.
