Square Opens Manhattan Storefront to Lure Sellers
Mobile payments processor Square has gone old-school, opening up a new brick-and-mortar store.
Located in Manhattan’s Nolita neighborhood, the store will show off some of the fintech’s hardware products, a display calculated to lure in new potential sellers onto Square’s network, it was reported yesterday.
The hope is that the storefront will provide an enhanced customer experience for Square sellers, rather than being a big driver for the sale of the hardware products it will be displaying (these products are already available for sale on various online retailers).
Aside from taking in the display and maybe picking up some candles for the office or some homemade jewelry (merchandise Square is also selling there) sellers can book appointments at a “support desk” for help with software—an experience similar to the Apple’s famous Genius Bar.
