Fintech funding hits 2-year low in Q3

Fintech funding hit a lull in the third quarter in both dollar and deal volume while the number of unicorns was its highest since 2022. In Q3, global fintech funding fell 29% year over year to $11 billion, its lowest level since Q3 2024, while deal count stood at 650, roughly half of the Q3 2025 total, according to CB Insights ' State of Fintech Funding report published on Oct. 17. [caption id="attachment_57390259" align="aligncenter" width="1108"] (Source/CB Insights)[/caption] Mega rounds of at least $100 million for established startups like Kalshi and Ant International represented 61% of total funding during the quarter, compared to 46% in Q3 2025, the report stated. Despite low funding volume overall, Q3 saw 10 companies hit unicorn status , the most since 2022 and up from three unicorns a year prior. Fintechs that raised money in October include: Stuut bags $52.5M Order-to-cash platform Stuut raised $52.5 million in a series B round led by Insight Partners , the company announced in an Oct. 7 release. Stuut uses AI to automate accounts receivable processes and remove "the friction that builds up before payment can happen," co-founder and Chief Executive Tarek Alaruri told FinAi News . "A missing [purchase order], an invoice sent to the wrong contact, a portal that requires manual login — each one triggers a chain of emails, internal chasing and rework," he said. "At enterprise scale, that turns into thousands of tiny investigations." AI addresses this bottleneck by "following those chains autonomously" and reaching out to customers, Alaruri said. AI also "logs into AP portals, reconciles cash and takes the next action without losing context across thousands of invoices at once." Nearly 82% of Stuut's outbound collections activity runs without human involvement, “and 95% of incoming payments are matched automatically," he said. The money will help Stuut "expand deeper into financial infrastructure" as it looks to move beyond collections and into the "full arc of a transaction," he said. "The [AI] roadmap continues in that direction — from the moment a company decides to sell something, through every decision, document and payment in between until cash hits the bank," Alaruri said. Hyperlayer raises $25.8M London-based AI company Hyperlayer raised $25.8 million in its series A2 round from Flintlock Capital , with Mouro Capital and Susquehanna, according to the company's Oct. 21 release. Hyperlayer provides a platform that allows FIs to embed AI tools in their services without doing an immediate core and infrastructure modernization , CEO Rob Rooney told FinAi News . The company will use the money to develop products and aid expansion in the United States, Rooney said. The company has raised $66 million since its inception in 2023 and provides its services to institutions including global Tier 1 banks, Rooney said. Cognitive Credit raises $40M Corporate credit data, analytics and AI services provider Cognitive Credit raised $40 million in a funding round from Summit Partners and ETFS Capital , according to the company's Oct. 22 release. The London-based company specializes in analysis of the corporate credit market like bonds and loans, founder and CEO Robert Slater told FinAi News . The company's platform has also started supporting commercial banking and risk management for clients. The company works with most of the leading sell-side market participants in the U.S. and Europe, including 100% of the top 10 global investment banks, across sales and trading and publishing research businesses, Slater said. ScribeUp lands $13M ScribeUp , an AI-powered platform for recurring bill management, raised $13 million in a series A round led by Curql , the fintech announced on Oct. 20. Sixty financial institutions have adopted ScribeUp's platform, which uses AI to sort raw, unstructured transaction data to identify recurring bills, when they're due and which payment account or form is being used, co-founder and CEO Jordan Mackler told FinAi News . AI enables "proactive visibility" by providing deeper insights into "what financial moves you need to make," whether that's needing more money in a certain account, canceling a duplicate subscription or managing loan payments, he said. The company chose not to build a solution like Rocket Money or similar spend management apps sold directly to consumers because "these parties are ultimately competitors to the financial institution and to the payment forms that” consumers use, Mackler said. ScribeUp aims to help FIs by "tracking visibility and control over these bills as the conduit to win financial engagement," Mackler said. In an FI’s digital infrastructure, "the scope of relevant actions and optimizations” within a broader banking context are “much more powerful," he said. ScribeUp plans to use the money to expand its platform, including more personalized financial products, agentic AI integrations and "biller control" features such as negotiation tactics, he said. Big deals Other notable deals this month include: Digital commerce marketplace Whop , which announced a $200 million series D round; Balance sheet optimization platform Capitolis , which raised $120 million in a series E round; Tokened financial infrastructure platform Spiko , which announced a $90 million series B round; and AI-driven finance platform Hyphenate , which announced a $45 million series A round.
