Citi Treasury and Trade Solutions, a division of Citi’s Institutional Clients Group, announced plans to launch 24/7 Clearing in the fourth quarter, a service allowing its 1,500 financial institution clients to make cross-border payments at any time of day.
“As entire business modes of our clients and clients’ clients shift to 24/7 models, it became clear that there was a compelling need for domestic and cross-border payments to move to 24/7 to deliver benefits ranging from efficiencies to improved client experience,” a Citi spokesperson told Bank Automation News.

The new service allows Citi, which operates in 95 countries and 145 currencies, to support client transactions beyond standard U.S. business hours, processing payments on holidays, weekends and after hours, according to a Citi release.
The solution runs on a newly developed architecture connected via internal APIs, and it will initially be available to clients that use the messaging system Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT), a channel financial institutions utilize that minimizes implementation requirements, the spokesperson said.
Future plans for the 24/7 solution include expanding into additional channels and adding APIs, the spokesperson told BAN, noting, “We will have a better idea on the timing of this [API] functionality once we hear back from early adopter clients.”
