Busy Day for Circle As It Releases Trading App, Launches Research Arm

Payments company Circle launched a new mobile app today for its trading platform, Poloniex, which it acquired in February. Circle also launched a service for distributing information on cryptocurrencies called Circle Research today.

Two weeks ago, Circle launched a stablecoin called USD Coin. Yes, Circle has been busy.

Circle is a peer-to-peer payments company originally focused on bitcoin, but later switching its emphasis to dollars. Crypto has always been in its DNA, however, as its acquisition of Poloniex showed.

Poloniex is a trading platform for cryptocurrencies, and is now available on iOS and Android. The service has been as active as its parent company lately, though not adding products. It announced last week it was delisting several assets (“AMP, EXP, GNO”) and removing margin trading and lending products for U.S. customers:

These changes are part of our ongoing commitment to ensure that Poloniex complies with regulatory requirements in every jurisdiction. In doing so, we’re also making every effort to ensure a smooth transition for customers who may be affected. We will provide more communication in the coming weeks about the final date but it will be by the end of the year and encourage customers to take steps to unwind margin positions at their convenience.

Circle is well-funded, having netted $135 million to date, by such notable investors such as Goldman Sachs, and made a splash in the crypto world upon its 2013 launch with a slick and simple interface for the buying and selling and sending of bitcoin.

From the Circle blog today:

As part of our commitment to offer the best customer experience possible, today we are announcing a new mobile app for Poloniex to allow existing customers, on iOS or Android, to trade with a few taps of their thumb and get the benefit of Poloniex anywhere, anytime and with a high-fidelity native app trading experience. The new app is localized and available in 9 languages.

In addition to trading, the new app includes a better mobile-based identity, verification and login process. You can learn more about the new app here or download it here (for iOS) or here (for Android). We look forward to hearing what you think!

Circle also announced the launch of Circle Research, an information service reporting on the cryptocurrency landscape. Its first three reports cover the blockchain and smart contract platforms EOS, Cardano, and Qtum.
