The Bank of Scotland is introducing a virtual assistant on mobile, which allows customers to have text-based conversation in real-time.

The virtual assistant, which uses artificial intelligence, can answer the most common banking questions (such as what to do about a lost card or how to make a payment), and is currently only available for users of the bank’s iPhone app.

The pilot will provide a way for the bank to see which additional features customers might prefer, according to the bank, before it is rolled out to its other customers.

Right now, 50,000 users of the iPhone app have access to the virtual assistant pilot.
