Finastra is looking to help its bank clients streamline their mortgage lending processes with AI with multiple lending solutions.
The London-based fintech has launched multiple AI-driven solutions including Loan IQ and LaserPro and is seeing banks gain efficiencies with its offerings, Andrew Bateman, executive vice president at Finastra’s lending business unit, told FinAi News.

Loan IQ helps banks track their existing loans; LaserPro allows financial institutions to manage documentation and compliance on one platform, Bateman explained.
“To understand the impact, you need to look at loan closure rates and the time it takes to close a loan,” he said. LaserPro saves two hours per loan for commercial or mortgage applications that usually used to take six to eight hours — or even multiple days — to complete, depending on the complexity of the loan.
The LaserPro’s AI tech helps FIs eliminate time-consumingmanual processes such as
- KYC;
- document validation; and
- Inputting values.
Such solutions are key to serving business clients that need quick access to capital, Bateman said. SMBs in the U.S. have been highly underserved for a long time, he added, noting that banks are gearing up to improve their SMB offerings in 2026,
Growth of SMB lending
Loan processes have not been updated recently by many banks to meet the needs of SMBs in the U.S., Bateman said.
“There’s a lot of growth areas for banks serving SMBs, but the challenge is operational efficiency to be able to capture a sizeable market,” he said. “For big banks to provide competitive pricing, they need a lot of automation and AI tech.”
Banks must use automation and AI for manual processes and for servicing loans in order to remove burdensome processes, Bateman said. AI can also help banks quickly evaluate a business’ cash flow and financial health to better underwrite loans.
“Banks also have 15 to 20 products for SMBs which need to be condensed and simplified or connected together,” Bateman said. SMB lending will be a big focus for FIs across all asset classes in 2026, he added.
Nearly 40% of U.S. banks use Finastra’s services, Bateman said. Nearly all the fintech’s clients are prioritizing AI tech in their lending processes next year.
Finastra clients include:
- ING Bank,
- Beacon Credit Union,
- Cache Valley Bank; and
- Lloyds Bank.
