Citizens Financial launched a new credit card suite this month on the heels of a platform revamp.
Over the past 18 months, the $220.1 billion financial institution has moved to a new decision engine, a new credit analytics platform and a new point of sale system, Adam Boyd, head of lending at Citizens, told Bank Automation News.
“These are areas where the bank hadn’t invested for quite a while,” Boyd said.
The bank worked with several vendors to facilitate the tech updates, Boyd said. Citizens moved to Experian’s credit platform and selected digital platform Blend as its point-of-sale provider.

Relaunching credit card business
In 2023, the bank shifted toward relationship lending and expanded its relationship with Mastercard, Boyd said.
“Those two factors in combination created a perfect storm for relaunching our credit card business,” he said.
The credit card suite, launched June 12, includes four cards:
- Citizens Amp Mastercard. Designed for those just starting their financial journey, no annual fee and access to learning tools;
- Citizens Spring World Mastercard. Designed for customers paying down debt, no annual fee and a low APR;
- Citizens Summit World Mastercard. Offers unlimited 3% cash back for everyday spending; and
- Citizens SummitReserve World Elite Mastercard. A premium card for more affluent customers. Offers travel and lifestyle rewards.
The credit card rollout started with an internal pilot, followed by a soft launch before fully going live June 12, Boyd said.
Citizens invited 25,000 customers to digitally convert their existing credit card accounts to the new credit card products, he said.
