U.S. Bank is leaning into AI solutions to boost efficiency and stay competitive amid broader industry shifts.

The $695 billion bank anticipates “meaningful shifts” in digital assets and AI across the industry in the coming years, President and Chief Executive Gunjan Kedia said during today’s fourth-quarter earnings call.

“Our scale, business mix and culture position us for success,” she said. “We remain focused on executing our priorities to drive organic growth, high returns, productivity and strong risk management.”

U.S. Bank’s investments in AI and stable coin position the bank for strong partnerships moving forward, Kedia said.

In 2025, U.S. Bank deployed AI for:

  • Customer service;
  • Fraud detection;
  • Content creation; and
  • Data analysis.

The bank’s attendance at this month’s Consumer Electronics Show will inspire its technology and AI initiatives for 2026, Todder Moning, head of R&D at U.S. Bank, told FinAi News.

“We’re reaching a time now where different big technologies are starting to converge,” he said. “It’s less about a particular gadget and more about the orchestration and the systemwide integration of AI.”

BY THE NUMBERS: U.S. Bank reported in Q4:

  • Technology and communications expenses rose 9.4% year over year to $584 million;
  • Efficiency ratio was 57.4%, down from 61.5% in Q4 2024;
  • Total revenue rose 5.1% YoY to $7.4 billion;
  • Headcount remained flat YoY at 70,000; and
  • Net income increased 22.8% YoY to $2.1 billion.

U.S. Bank’s Prageeth Sandakalum, vice president and principal product manager for digital, data and AI, will speak Tuesday, March 3, at the FinAi Banking Summit. Register here for the inaugural FinAi Banking Summit, taking place March 2-3 in Denver. View the full event agenda here.
