Wisely Adds Reviews, User History and More with App Update

eastern_screech_owlRecommendation engine Wisely just got, well, wiser.

The app uses real-world transaction data to help users find nearby stores and restaurants. It also tells users what other visitors spent and how they rated the experience. This is accomplished by users linking cards to the location-sensitive app, which then compiles where users went how much they spent and now — how much they liked it. When a user visits XYZ Restaurant and spends $40, this anonymized data enters Wisely’s recommendation engine for other users to see.

In version 2.0 of the app, which hit the iTunes app store on May 8, users can now write short reviews of the restaurant to accompany their transactions, and the app also breaks down tourists versus regulars for those concerned about such things. Wisely bills itself as a real-world search engine that is more useful than Yelp because its reviews and recommendation are all powered by actual visits where users spent money.

The Android app has not yet been updated.

The app also features a “historical dashboard” that shows transaction history and PFM-like capabilities such as budgeting and a spending breakdown. The app also provides anonymized customer data to merchants, who can offer rewards on the Wisely platform. This is the app’s path to monetization.

Wisely allows users to link cards from American Express, JPMorgan Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank and Wells Fargo. (This covers quite a few users.) The app was formerly known as Glyph, and was focused on helping users maximize rewards. Users can add loyalty cards to the app in addition to the bank cards.
