Bank Automation News breaks down automation-specific job postings by the nation’s biggest banks to glean current growth strategies for the bank and automation.

JPMorgan Chase is hiring for two Alteryx dashboard developers. In fact, Alteryx as a skill set comes up in 247 job openings on JP Morgan Chase’s career site.
Alteryx is a low-code business intelligence tool that can automate workflows that deal with data. It provides drag-and-drop integration, supported by the platform’s extract transform and load (ETL) tool. How low code is it? Perhaps what best demonstrates its ease of use is the free license and sandbox program for children who want to launch their data science careers. In fact, a September podcast featured 12-year-old “data explorer” Felipe Rodriguez.
Alteryx also incorporates automated optical character recognition and natural language processing. Third-party packages are available for data mapping and geocoding.
While Alteryx does have a visualization tool, it works best when paired with Tableau, a tool with better data visualization, but weaker data management capabilities, according to Technology Advice, a tech review site. This may be why the $3.4 trillion bank is looking for dashboard developers who can work in both solutions.
Job responsibilities for the position include developing dashboards in Tableau using Alteryx and other data integration tools to analyze key business drivers. The developers will also serve as a single point of contact on multiple projects, reporting to senior bank officials, and mentoring analysts within the organization.
The dashboard developers sit in the financial analysis and controllers’ group with the chief financial officer, and will be part of the reporting automation garage, which leads “initiatives across Global Finance with a focus on automating manual processes and creating visual dashboards.” The candidate will work with internal clients and controller groups to create “enhanced automation and dashboard opportunities, run functional and technical feasibility analysis, translate ideas into use cases, and partner with technology to deliver tangible solutions.”
The dashboard developers will need some data chops, too: Requirements are a bachelor’s degree with a focus on business or management information systems, computer science or another quantitative field, and an MBA is preferred. The applicants should have at least seven years’ experience in a related data discipline, or three years at a top management consulting firm. Among the preferred skill sets are three years or more experience with data modeling and management, and visualization. Despite the job description’s title, Tableau and Alteryx are listed as “a plus,” suggesting JPMorgan Chase is willing to train on these platforms. Knowledge of SQL, Oracle and JavaScript are also listed as pluses for the position.
This new posting is not JP Morgan Chase’s only advertised automation job. The bank recently was seeking a “Low Code Workflow and Decision Automation VP.”
