October has seen many new hires in banking and technology around the industry. Big banks like Fifth Third, U.S. Bank and Truist all made major hires, while vendors like Nymbus and Neocova put new personnel in leadership positions.

Here are the most notable October hires:
Software vendors add new leadership
Nymbus, a Miami-based banking software provider, added Jeffery Kendall as CEO, replacing founder Scott Killoh. Kendall was formerly an executive vice president at Kony, a software firm that was acquired by Temenos in 2019. Killoh will remain Nybmus’ executive chairman of the board.
St. Louis-based core startup Neocova, meanwhile, added Matt Beecher as its first president. Before joining Neocova, Beecher was the CEO of Vault, a student loan benefits platform.
Big banks make a splash
U.S. Bank named Don Relyea chief innovation officer earlier this month. “Don has a mind for seeing the future and customer obsession that aligns really well with what we’re doing at U.S. Bank,” said Dominic Venturo, chief digital officer at U.S. Bank, in a statement. “He’s designed and developed award-winning applications for all screens – TV, mobile, web and desktop.” Before U.S. Bank, Relyea was head of the global patent office and head of U.S. user experience for BBVA.
Truist, the product of the SunTrust and BB&T merger, named Vinoo Vijay as chief marketing officer. Vijay’s previous roles include chief marketing officer at H&R Block and chief marketing officer at TD Bank.
Fifth Third promoted Tim Spence from head of consumer banking, payments and strategy to president of the bank this month. Spence has been with Fifth Third for five years, before which he was a senior partner at Oliver Wyman for nine years.
OakNorth, SMBC make moves
OakNorth, an underwriting technology firm that also operates as a bank in the U.K., announced two personnel changes this month. Anya Darrow, who previously ran her own consulting firm, is now OakNorth’s senior vice president of customer success, while Jeremiah Norton, previously a board member at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, has been named to the firm’s advisory board.

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, meanwhile, has named David Kelly as the bank’s new U.S. chief information officer. Before joining SMBC, Kelly was the chief technology officer at Capital Markets Gateway. SMBC also appointed Sammy Asoli as the managing director and head of the secured subscription finance department. Asoli was previously with Lloyds Banking Group for almost nine years.
Envestnet fills a new role
Advisory technology company Envestnet today announced Donna Peeples as the firm’s new chief relationship officer, a new role at the company. “Donna has extensive experience in driving high-performing teams and leadership roles in a variety of industries, where she has accumulated expertise in delivery management, process improvements, revenue, and operational oversight for leading start-up organizations,” said Stuart DePina, president of Envestnet, in a statement. Peeples was previously senior vice president and chief client officer at FIS.
Startups stay busy
Copper Banking, a banking app for teens based out of Seattle, has hired Daniel Gonzalez, formerly of Chime, as its vice president of customer experience and compliance. Gonzalez was the head of member services at Chime from 2017 to 2019.
Corporate card and financial product startup Brex announced this month it is adding June Sauvaget as chief marketing officer. According to a company statement, the hire comes as Brex tries to expand beyond startups. Sauvaget spent more than four years at Spotify, where her last title was global head of consumer and product marketing. “June is a word-class brand marketer. Her very strong consumer DNA will be transformational for our growth plans to connect with a broader set of businesses,” said Henrique Dubugras, co-founder and co-CEO of Brex, in a statement.
