Lloyds Banking Group will move from pilot to enterprisewide deployment of agentic AI this year.

Agentic AI innovation is coming to life in 2026 as pilots turn into products at the $1.2 trillion bank.

Lloyds Banking Group Head of AI Rohit Dhawan published in an article on Jan. 21 on the bank’s website that the London-based financial institution has identified five focus areas for agentic AI:

  1. Customer interactions;
  2. Back-office operations;
  3. Frontline and relationship manager support;
  4. Colleague assistance; and
  5. Engineering and developer enablement.

In pilot

In 2025, the bank had 50 gen AI applications live within customer interactions, operations, frontline support, internal assistants and engineering support, according to the bank’s November 2025 “Unlocking value through digital leadership” presentation.

On the agentic front, the bank’s AI-powered financial assistant is being tested. The tool is designed to help customers manage spending, savings and investments, according to Lloyds.

“By becoming the first U.K. bank to bring agentic AI to our customers, we are taking a crucial step in helping millions of customers benefit from more control over their finances,” Ranil Boteju, chief data and analytics officer at Lloyds Banking Group, said in the November release. “This launch is not just about introducing new technology; it is a pivotal step in our strategy as we continue to reimagine the group for our customers and colleagues.”

Following the pilot, the plan is to make the offering available in all of Lloyds’ financial products including mortgages and car finance, according to the release.

Launch of the AI assistant has not been set, a Lloyds spokesperson told FinAi News.

“This new technology will take the customer experience up a level by giving people access to a personal AI agent, empowering more people than ever to make informed decisions about their money,” Chief Digital Officer Helen Bierton said in the release.

Lloyds won’t be the only bank moving pilots to production in 2026, Amin Zaman, financial services industry adviser at Salesforce, told FinAi News.

“In 2026, we’ll really start to see a shift from pilots and proofs-of-concept to production, particularly in areas affecting operational processes with bottlenecks, multiple handoffs and higher complexity,” Zaman said.
