Westpac Bank Customers Finally Can Use iMessage for Payments

Following a troubled relationship with tech giant Apple, Westpac Bank customers can finally use iMessage to send and receive money.

The Australian bank’s customers can now make P2P transactions within iMessage by clicking on a Westpac icon that appears on the keyboard within iMessage.

Westpac, which was previously using Israeli fintech PayKey to provide P2P features within iMessage, was required to shut down the feature following demands by Apple that it do so.

In a statement released today, Westpac chief executive, consumer bank, George Frazis said:

We are keen to give our customers a broad range of choice when it comes to banking and we know digital developments like Westpac for iMessage will be welcome news.
