Westlake Financial has launched a credit card rewards program using back-end technologies from embedded finance company Railsr.
The Westlake Black Credit Card gives the financial institution’s customers 2% cash back on all qualified automotive-related purchases including vehicle maintenance and servicing, gas, oil changes and brakes, Jim Eyraud, vice president of Wilshire Consumer Credit, a wholly owned subsidiary of Westlake, told Bank Automation News.

“Since Westlake is primarily in the auto finance industry, we thought it was a natural fit for us to provide strong rewards for automotive purchases,” Eyraud said.
The credit card program runs on two platforms: one for applications and another for back-end account, transaction and reward management, he told BAN, noting Railsr serves as the “hub for the entire program.”
Railsr provides the API integration with Evolve Bank and Trust, the issuing bank, using the Visa Network, Eyraud said. Westlake’s internal team built some of its own API connections during the six-month build, he added.
The rewards program is live with “active cards in people’s wallets,” Eyraud told BAN, noting that Westlake also offers a virtual card component that can be instantly added to a mobile wallet.
For now, the lender is focused on the rollout while considering what’s next. “We’re looking at different introductory reward programs to be able to put into it,” he added.
