EXCLUSIVE – Think the bitcoin craze has died down? Think again. A new report shows that six out of 10 people with no current exposure to cryptocurrencies would consider including altcoins and bitcoin in their investment portfolios.
The report released last week by deVere Group also shows that seven out of 10 people currently investing in cryptocurrencies are planning to increase their exposure to it in the next 12 months.
For this report, deVere Group polled 800 people across U.S, the UK, Australia, the UAE, Qatar, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Spain, France, Germany and South Africa.
“Would you consider, or are you considering, including at least one cryptocurrency into your investment portfolio?” was one of the questions posed to those surveyed. Of current cryptocurrency non-investors, 62% said yes, 26% said no, and 12% were unsure.
Of the respondents that have already invested in cryptocurrency, 71% are looking to increase their exposure over the next year, while 25% would not and 4% were unsure.
deVere Group’s founder and CEO, Nigel Green, said in the report:
The fact that more than 60% of people with currently no exposure to cryptocurrencies would consider including them into their investment portfolios is striking. It underscores how, despite what many financial traditionalists have opined, that a majority of investors are now open to consider the opportunities that the likes of Bitcoin, Ethereum and Ripple could present. An increasing general awareness of cryptocurrencies and how they work, plus a growing sense that cryptocurrency regulation is now inevitable, are perhaps the main reasons why such a high percentage of people are now open to looking at the possibilities of crypto for their portfolios.
Cryptocurrencies, bitcoin particularly, has had a rough start in 2018. After skyrocketing to an all-time high of more than $17K, bitcoin came crashing down more than 25% in late December 2017. Since then, followed by a series of negative events including a heist and malfunctions of crypt-exchanges, the cryptocurrency has remained well below that record high.
Bitcoin is currently trading at $8,606, as of 11am ET according to Coinbase.
