up_and_up_graphFiserv has more than one million users of mobile remote deposit capture on its platform, Bank Innvoation has learned. There are 7 million users on its Mobiliti mobile banking platform.

The Brookfield, Wis.-based provider of financial services technology recently announced a solution to fund reloadable prepaid cards using remote deposit capture of checks, according to Gary Brand, the company’s director of source capture solutions.

VALID Systems, based in Fort Worth, Texas, will provide the check guarantees to give customers immediate access to funds. “They use over 60,000 rules to decision an item within three seconds,” Brand told Bank Innovation.

Adoption of mobile technology is moving quickly and even accelerating, Brand said. Features such as remote deposit capture, which remove pain points for customers and cut down on visits to branches and ATMs, saving financial institutions money, are significant drivers of mobile adoption.

The feature will work either as a component of existing apps, or as a standalone app.

Fiserv reports 1.2 million total RDC users on its online and mobile platforms, but that number is an old number, Brand said. On the mobile platform alone, the company has topped 1 million RDC users, he said.

One in 10 American households have reported using a prepaid product, according to Fiserv.
