Dwolla, the alternative payments company, has lost the two leaders of its API team.

Alexander Taub and Michael Schonfield left Dwolla last Friday to launch Modern Mast.

Taub’s title was officially Business Development & Partnerships, while Schonfield seems to have had the title of Developer Evangelist. Both were charged with running Dwolla’s API and based in New York. Taub ran the business side; Schonfield the technology side.

A Dwolla representative told Bank Innovation that the pair’s departure will not affect API operations at Dwolla, adding, “We were and always will be their biggest fans.”

According to Taub, Modern Mast will create advertising and marketing services that derive from an original app he and Schonfield built back in 2011 called MVF, which stands for Most Valuable Follower. The premise of MVF was to find out who, out of all a user’s followers on Twitter, was the most valuable. MVF was tested by more than 50,000 users, before Taub and Schonfield reined it in to focus on their day jobs at Dwolla.

Dwolla has received about $23 million of venture funding to date, according to Crunchbase.
