A new startup called Coin launched today, showing off a hybrid card/mobile technology that allows all of a user’s cards to be stored on one card. This is achieved by a using a Square-like reader that pulls information from the magstripes then imprints it onto the Coin card. Users can sign up now but the card won’t be available until the summer of 2014.

This is valuable, but hardly unique. Wallaby has been working to achieve a similar result for some time, and a startup called Omne presented a very similar solution in prototype at Money2020. Other solutions are are in the space too. What makes Coin different? Maybe it’s that you can pre-order it now.
