NEW YORK — Wells Fargo Auto is looking to the bank’s enterprise-level AI for potential applications.

“For the auto business, we have the benefit of being able to leverage those tools that are being developed at the enterprise level,” Head of Wells Fargo Auto Tanya Sanders said today at Fintech Nexus.
For example, in October the $1.9 trillion bank launched AI-driven virtual assistant Fargo, which uses natural language processing to enhance the customer experience of the bank’s mobile app using conversational AI, according to a Wells Fargo release.
The virtual assistant could benefit the auto business in the car shopping and buying experience, Sanders said, noting that consumers have gained confidence in shopping for vehicles online, and that should continue to evolve toward shoppers obtaining financing online.
“Having a virtual assistant that knows your demographic, some of your lifestyle choices and can recommend not only a vehicle but also the type of financing that works best for your financial picture, I think that’s something that I look forward to,” she said.
For now, Wells Fargo Auto continues to approach AI cautiously with risk management at the forefront, Sanders said.
“For my business, it’s still early days,” she said. “We are still understanding the technology.”
