TD Bank is reaping the rewards of its continued investments in AI and is close to hitting its target for AI-driven annualized savings.

During its fiscal third quarter, which ended July 31, the bank deployed AI in multiple processes in its TD Auto Finance Canada business, having “automated approximately one-third of the manual processes in funding and launching digital income verification to deliver credit decisions faster,” Chief Executive Raymond Chun said during today’s earnings call.

The bank is continues to emphasize AI opportunities that transform end-to-end experiences, drive lower unit costs and are scalable across the entire business, Chun said.

“In the first wave, we are focused on significant opportunities in retail end-to-end credit, the software development life cycle and our contact centers,” he said.

The Toronto-based bank provided guidance that it will have CA$200 million ($144 million) in AI-driven value across the organization, including savings and revenue, in fiscal 2026 and has realized $140 million of that year to date, according to the earnings presentation.

“We expect to extract further value through the remainder of the year across predictive, generative and agentic AI use cases,” Chun said.

The company is also in the early stages of deploying agentic AI solutions in its personal banking and mortgage verticals, Sona Mehta, group head of Canadian Personal Banking, said during earnings call.

BY THE NUMBERS:

In Q3, TD reported:

  • Net income of $3.3 billion, up 38% YoY;
  • Revenue of $12.1 billion, up 10% YoY;
  • Efficiency ratio of 50.2%, down 550 basis points; and
  • Expenses, including technology, of $6 billion, down 1% YoY.
