Grasshopper Bank is listening to client demand as it launches an AI-driven personalized financial management solution for its business clients.
The digital bank and tech provider Narmi launched a model context protocol (MCP) server that allows business clients to access personalized financial analysis.
An MCP is a standard layer for AI applications to communicate effectively with tools, databases and more, according to IBM.
Narmi’s MCP server enables Grasshopper small-business clients to query financial information using Anthropic’s AI assistant, Claude, according to an Aug. 20 release.
The $1.4 billion bank’s small-business clients can ask questions and receive instant AI-driven responses. For example, clients could ask:
- What’s my checking account balance?
- What expenses could I reduce to improve margins next quarter?
- Can you categorize my top 10 recurring vendors?
“Many of our small-business and startup clients have expressed more interest in more automated and intelligent financial tools to help them manage cash flow and make informed decisions, and that feedback helped shape this offering,” Nate Gruendemann, product manager at Grasshopper, told Bank Automation News.
The MCP technology is available in beta, Gruendemann told BAN.
“We’re keeping this initial testing group small so we can closely monitor performance, gather feedback and fine-tune the experience before offering it more broadly,” he said.
The full rollout of the solution is targeted for the fourth quarter, Gruendemann said. “Final timing will be determined once we complete testing, evaluate feedback from our beta program and implement key enhancements.”
The announcement follows the bank’s recently completed $46.6 million funding round.
