What credit crisis?

Regardless of the fact that the financial world was burning, the 10 largest banks in the United States saw double-digit jumps in traffic at their web sites in 2008, according to Compete.com data.

HSBC saw its web traffic climb the most in 2008, growing 27.3% and adding nearly 440,000 new visitors per month. Last month HSBC’s web site traffic increased 13.2%.

The Top 10 bank with the greatest increase in traffic last month? Oddly, Wachovia Inc., the troubled bank that was purchased recently by Wells Fargo & Co. Wachovia’s web traffic, as measured by unique visitors, soared 15.1% to nearly 7.6 million in December alone. For the year, Wachovia’s web traffic jumped 14.6%. The bank added 1.1 million new visitors to its site in 2008.

JPMorgan Chase tacked on the most new visitors to its site last year, bolstering its monthly visits by 4.9 million. About 20.5 million visitors come to chase.com every month.

Bank of America is the king online, attracting the most visitors every month. BofA gets more than 25.7 million visits per month to its site. The bank grew its traffic 14.7% last year.

Just think what the traffic would be if there was no credit crisis.
