Core provider Temenos is growing its international footprint as more financial institutions (FIs) turn to its microservices and API-powered technology amid increasing cloud adoption.

Temenos’ expansion in areas like the Middle East is largely due to FIs integrating cloud architecture — a departure from traditional banking norms in the region, Robert Wint, senior product director at Temenos, told Bank Automation News.

“In the Middle East, they are behind where other regions are with cloud capabilities, but as their local regulators adopt more of that strategy, we are seeing it grow,” Wint said. “I think what we tend to find is the need for a digital bank is pretty consistent across the globe, to be able to onboard customers and do it in a more automated fashion.”

Geneva-based Temenos counts 850 digital banking clients worldwide, including $153 billion Assaray Trade & Investment Bank, based in Libya, and $1.5 billion TS Banking Group, based in Treynor, Iowa, according to an FI Navigator report provided to BAN.

The company is continuing its focus on global expansion, adding 79 new banking clients in 2021 and 106 in 2020, according to a release.

“Having global capability is really key to being able to serve the different needs as they come to different regions across the globe,” Wint said. “It’s about providing the broad range of functionality that allows us to quickly deliver banking functions that solve specific client needs within those regions.”

Temenos is the core provider for Austin, Texas-based, $2.1 billion Green Dot and the Sandy, Utah, branch of $188 billion Ally Bank.
