Data science marketplace GravityAI moves out of beta

GravityAI, a startup that offers a marketplace for data science solutions, moved out of private beta last week. Founder Daniel Huss said the company, which was founded in 2018, already has two paying clients and three others piloting the marketplace.

“We are an app store for data science solutions,” Huss said. “Our technology wraps [data science solutions] in what’s called a ‘container’ that makes it easy for a buyer to essentially download it like an app, virtually code-free.”

GravityAI was founded on the premise that there is a shortage of data scientists, given the demand for automation in financial services and beyond. Because GravityAI contracts with companies shopping on its marketplace, data science companies and teams can avoid long procurement times that stall traditional partnerships.

The data science solutions that GravityAI hosts include fraud detection, text extraction from documents and stock market prediction models. The startup runs security checks on the data science solutions to make sure there is no malicious code and checks them for accuracy. Institutions can browse the solutions to see which fit their specific needs. Huss said the marketplace currently hosts about 40 data science solutions, and is growing.

GravityAI so far focuses mainly on financial service solutions. Huss said, however, the marketplace is open to any companies looking to automate and digitize their processes through data science. He co-founded the company with his brother, Jon Huss, who also serves as chief technology officer.

Banks are increasingly looking for ways to automate processes like fraud detection, especially as consumers flock to digital channels during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Whenever there is innovation from a banking perspective, there’s also innovation from the criminal perspective,” Uri Rivner, chief cyber officer at the behavioral biometrics company BioCatch, previously told Bank Innovation.

Bank Innovation Build, which takes place Sept. 9-10 as a virtual experience, is a must-attend industry event for professionals overseeing financial technologies, product experiences and services. Register here.
