Primis Bank has chosen financial software provider Savana to help automate processes between its core and customer channels for more efficient self-service capabilities.

The $3.5 billion, McLean, Va.-based bank has integrated Savana’s APIs with its Finxact core and plans to offer small-business checking and savings accounts in the first quarter, Primis Bank Chief Information Officer Cody Sheflett told Bank Automation News.

“We’ve been working with [Savana], because we’re trying to be a lot more tech-centric,” Sheflett said. “We have more new features on [Savana’s] roadmap that are going to continue to roll up, just as we’ll have more demands and things that we want to do for new products, new services.”

Through the partnership, the bank is offering features including mobile check deposits and digital debit cards, which are delivered through defined rule sets and workflows within the system, Sheflett added.

The integration process took 18 months beginning in the summer of 2020 and concluded at the end of 2021. The initial deposit product launch was only available to a select few Primis Bank customers, but is now available to all retail banking customers, according to a release from Savana.

Primis is the latest challenger bank to choose the Malvern, Penn.-based Savana to upgrade their offerings; the yet-to-launch Battle Financial selected Savana last October. Savana was founded in 2009, and has raised $53.9 million over four funding rounds, according to Crunchbase.

Within the next year, Primis Bank plans to offer deposit capabilities to business customers and provide asset-backed securities features such as cash-flow forecasting based on scheduled incoming or outgoing payments, Sheflett told BAN.

“[Businesses] will be able to do a lot of those self-service items but also get a lot more information out of their transaction and their history,” he said. “[Businesses] still may have accounting software, but they will be able to compare their positive paychecks or positive ACHs and see where their outgoing or incoming money should go. It’s a little bit tighter focus for us.”
