“To successfully expand into banking services, it is imperative that we work with a provider that has the technology advancements and proven experience to support our initiatives,” Cypress President and CEO Dana Kilborne said in a Tuesday announcement about the partnership. Palm Beach, Fla.-based Cypress Bank & Trust is a $75 million startup that existed as a trust for 25 years before chartering in August 2021.

The Paducah, Ky.-based CSI’s other recent partnerships include deals with $311 million Dolores, Colo.-based Dolores State Bank, and $257 million Cheyenne, Wyo.-based Wyoming Bank and Trust.

The core provider’s NuPoint solution integrates front- and back-end processes with a privately hosted cloud, connecting both customers and employees to data and third-party application programming interfaces (APIs).

Single sign-on for employees and contactless digital wallet add-ons are key features of the platform, Giovanni Mastronardi, CSI’s group president of enterprise banking, told BAN. Unification of these features into a secure, cloud-embedded channel, however, is the main driver for banks.

The partnership is indicative of a broader trend in cloud and core banking for 2022, Matt Kelley, director of the JAM FINTOP bank network, told Bank Automation News. Banks will “increasingly start to build new digital bank businesses on modern cloud core technology,” as competition for commercial and retail customers heats up and challenger banks ascend in relevancy.

“Deep integration between payments, digital and core, where everything is happening. It feels like one environment,” Mastronardi told BAN. “It’s a single codebase for our digital banking.”

Bank Automation Summit, taking place March 1-2 in Charlotte, N.C., is the first and only event to focus solely on automation in banking. The event will feature the brightest minds from across financial services on intelligent automation strategies and deployment. Learn more and register for Bank Automation Summit 2022.
