ServiceNow expands collaboration with OpenAI

Enterprise-workflow automation and management platform ServiceNow has deepened its interoperability with OpenAI via a plugin and is working with the AI company to build additional security solutions. The "expanded partnership with OpenAI [will] help enterprises move seamlessly from AI reasoning to governed action," Bill McDermott , chief executive of cloud-based ServiceNow , said on the company's third-quarter earnings call Oct. 28. (Courtesy/David Paul Morris/Bloomberg)[/caption] The plugin lets teams use ServiceNow directly through ChatGPT, allowing them to go from asking questions to acting in one conversation. "What we're doing with OpenAI is allowing ChatGPT as a way to interface into ServiceNow, but all of the work happens inside ServiceNow," Amit Zavery , chief product officer and chief operating officer at ServiceNow, said on the call. The company plans to add enhanced capabilities to the plugin, available in the OpenAI marketplace, by yearend, according to an Oct. 28 release. Google Cloud partnership ServiceNow announced a similar expanded relationship with Google Cloud on Oct. 27. “This collaboration brings the agentic power of the Google Cloud platform straight into their mission-critical ServiceNow systems, allowing teams to instantly trigger actions, resolve complex issues and serve their customers faster," Google Cloud Vice President Satish Thomas said in release that day. Multiple projects with OpenAI ServiceNow and OpenAI also this week announced their collaboration on: A security solution to help users identify, triage, validate and mitigate attack paths across their systems; Integrating OpenAI's Codex LLM with ServiceNow’s AI Workflow Factory, an agentic product introduced Oct. 6, to help developers build applications and modernize legacy applications; and A voice feature using OpenAI technology on ServiceNow's Super Intelligence Control Tower, the central control plane on the company's platform, to allow, for example, a user to describe an AI application aloud and have the agent fill out a risk assessment. The companies aim to launch these products in 2027. “AI becomes more useful when people can put it to work in the systems their businesses depend on,” Greg Brockman , president and co-founder of OpenAI, said in the Oct. 28 release. “By bringing our models together with ServiceNow’s workflows and business context, we’re helping teams build software, address security risks and put AI to work across their organizations.” By the numbers ServiceNow reported $4.1 billion in Q3 revenues, a 20.5% increase year over year. The company also reported in the quarter: Adjusted net income of $1 billion, up 4.7% YoY; and Operating expenses of $2.5 billion, up 21.8% YoY. "From a productivity standpoint, our internal use of AI is now generating more than $1 billion in annualized value, more than double the level we exited 2025," Chief Financial Officer Gina Mastantuono said on the call. Shares of ServiceNow ( NYSE: NOW ) were down 26.97% from market open to $109.64 as of market close today. ServiceNow has a market capitalization of $113.3 billion.
