Inside Fiserv’s agent ‘app store’

First Interstate Bank and Boulder Dam Credit Union among pilot banks

Fiserv is investing in its financial solutions group via product launches and talent.

The Milwaukee, WI.-based fintech launched its agentic AI operating system, agentOS, in May, Vishal Dalal, Fiserv’s chief product officer for financial solutions, told FinAi News.

The platform helps FIs manage, develop and deploy AI agents to complete a myriad of banking tasks — everything from core banking, payment and fraud analytics, Dalal said.

The platform resembles the Apple App store, where banks can build their own agents, buy Fiserv’s agents or add third-party agents to the platforms, he said.

“The idea for agentOS was to create what I would almost call an operating system for agents,” Dalal said. “That means giving our clients the freedom to write their own agents.”

Banks can find agents built for specific functions such as regulatory monitoring and risk modeling on the platform, Dalal said.

Designed for existing Fiserv core banking clients, the agentic system is built with the following components:

  • Agents;
  • Governance;
  • LLM agnostic tooling; and
  • Core banking data.

In the governance layer, the company focuses on keeping agents accountable by ensuring AI decisions are recorded and traceable and that each decision an agent makes is directly linked to a bank policy, he said.

Early adopters

The agentOS platform was co-developed with six banks, according to a company release.

Among the six banks involved in testing the product are First Interstate Bank and Boulder Dam Credit Union, which have been running pilot agents since mid-May.

Salem Five, City National Bank, Bank OZK and SouthState plan to deploy agents this summer, according to the release.

“As we aim to embed agentic AI into our operations, doing so within the controlled and governed architecture of Fiserv was critical to us,” Steele Hendrix, president and chief executive of Boulder Dam Credit Union, who is an early adopter of the tool, said in the Fiserv release.

The agentOS is LLM agnostic and is built on top of Amazon Bedrock platform, Dalal said, adding that banks will be able to create agents using any LLM, despite Fiserv’s current collaboration with OpenAI.

The company plans to make the product widely available by August, according to the release.

New appointments

In tandem with the announcement of agentOS, Fiserv has added to its financial solutions group, a spokesperson told FinAi News.

Dalal, for one, took on the role of chief product officer for financial solutions group in April.

These leadership appointments have been made in the financial solutions group since April:

  • Ahon Sarkar, senior vice president, AI platform;
  • Srini Krish, head of technology operations; and
  • Milind Nagnur, who joined the financial solutions group leadership team from Optum.
