Citi is deploying AI at scale internally to drive efficiency, with several tools already available to nearly 80% of its team.

The $1.6 trillion bank introduced internal AI tools to more than 182,000 colleagues in 84 jurisdictions in 2025, and plans to expand access, Payal Jain, head of application engineering and platforms at Citi, told FinAi News.

“Colleagues had approximately 7 million interactions with Citi AI tools through Q3,” Jain said. “Developers have completed approximately 1 million automated code reviews, creating an estimated capacity of 100,000 hours per week.”

The bank had 229,000 full-time employees at the end of Q3, according to its earnings report.

Citi’s AI suite includes:

  • Citi Assist: A desktop AI assistant that helps navigate Citi’s internal policies and procedures for compliance, risk, human resources and finance;
  • Citi Stylus Workspaces: An agentic AI platform designed to enable employees to complete tasks more efficiently; and
  • Citi Squad: Available to Citi’s developer team, assists with code reviews and tasks.

Citi uses multiple models to power its AI suite, including Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude’s LLMs, Jain said.

The New York-based bank is also deploying agentic AI to provide solutions to its specialized workforce, Jain said.

Citi launched AskWealth, a conversational assistant, in August. The tool “gives service teams, advisers and managers instant answers across the wealth ecosystem and adviser insights,” Jain said.
