Mastercard and PayPal are deepening their collaboration to accelerate secure global “agentic” commerce, allowigng AI or other digital agents to complete transactions on behalf of consumers and businesses.
Under the expanded partnership, Mastercard Agent Pay will be embedded into the PayPal wallet. That means hundreds of millions of consumers and tens of millions of merchants worldwide — including those holding Mastercard cards on file with PayPal — will have access to agent-driven commerce experiences, according to a Mastercard release today.

The integration will also include testing of the newly devised Mastercard Agent Pay Acceptance Framework, ensuring compatibility and interoperability between agents and merchant platforms. The move aims to deliver both seamless checkout experiences and strong security protections — including tokenization and authentication — for AI-driven transactions.
In a scenario described by the companies, a consumer might ask an AI agent to find running shoes, select an option via a PayPal-enabled merchant and verify payment using their Mastercard credential stored in PayPal. The transaction is completed through the agent-commerce workflow built by the collaboration, according to the release.
Sherri Haymond, co-president of global partnerships at Mastercard, said the tie-up drives “a catalyst for agentic innovation at global scale, empowering merchants and consumers to transact with confidence, speed, and trust.”
Michelle Gill, executive vice president at PayPal, said in the release that the integration “empowers merchants and consumers to participate in agentic commerce with trust and flexibility at the center.”
As agentic commerce gains traction, Mastercard and PayPal said they will continue to collaborate on a range of AI-driven use cases, expanding value for users.
