Financial and retail technology services provider Diebold Nixdorf is prioritizing AI-driven self-service functions and branch automation at financial institutions.

“The adoption of AI and machine learning in self-service banking is on a fast growth trajectory,” Joe Myers, executive vice president of global banking at Diebold Nixdorf, told Bank Automation News.

Diebold Nixdorf works with the top 100 global financial institutions. Clients include:

  • $14.5 billion Piraeus Bank;
  • $10 million Acleda Bank;
  • $4.5 billion Virginia Credit Union; and
  • $3.4 billion Fidelity Bank.

The DN AllConnect Data Engine (ACDE), a core enabling technology maintenance service, uses IoT, cloud computing, machine learning and AI to service ATMs as banks reduce branch footprints, Myers said.

“Once a DN Series device is linked to ACDE, data can be analyzed and processed to diagnose the root cause of failures automatically and instantaneously,” Myers said. “This allows for faster incident resolution and even predicts and prevents failures before they occur to maximize availability and minimize the involvement of ATM operations and branch employees.”

During the second quarter:

  • Multinational $351 billion Qatar National Bank started using Diebold Nixdorf’s DN Series 500 cash recycler, bringing branch automation to the bank’s ATM service.
  • Diebold Nixdorf banking revenue from services increased 7% sequentially to $407 million, attributed to branch automation solutions.
  • Diebold Nixdorf’s profit from banking increased 15% sequentially and 1% year over year to $187 million.

“Financial institutions are prioritizing omnichannel experiences that merge the convenience of digital with the trust of physical touch points,” EVP Myers said.

AI committee

While banks adopt omnichannel experiences, Diebold Nixdorf is considering where to implement emerging technology within its operations.

The tech provider has “formed an AI steering committee to evaluate and implement these technologies firmwide to make better decisions and give better recommendations to our customers,” Myers told BAN.

“We will continue improving using technology, incorporating AI into the way we serve our customers,” Chief Executive Octavio Marquez said during today’s Q2 earnings call.
