And you thought text banking was dead.

Bank of America Corp. has quietly expanded its text banking service — yes, text banking service — to “support” at least three more telcos. Those telcos are Sprint, Boost, and Cincinnati Bell. BofA also added MetroPCS, which is a T-Mobile brand.

Sprint alone serves about 54 million customers.

Bank of America’s text banking still supports T-Mobile, AT&T, Cellular One, Virgin Mobile, and Verizon Wireless. Suffice it to say, a vast number of Americans are now eligible to use BofA’s text banking service.

At the end of last quarter, Bank of America had 16.1 million mobile banking users.

The service itself, however, has not changed much. BofA allows its customers to ping the bank with text messages to:

• check balances;
• get details on credit card accounts;
• receive a rundown of recent transactions; and
• find local customer service numbers, among other services.
