here we go again.
here we go again.

With tax season upon our furrowed brows, a cursory view of this list may lead one to think everyone is doing taxes on his phone. The Internal Revenue Service’s own IRS2Go and Intuit, Inc.’s TurboTax apps both joined the ranks of the Top Ten for iOS users, pushing out GEICO Mobile and U by BB&T, despite the latter’s recent resurgence to eleventh place from 27th.

But IRS2Go made it all the way to second place on GooglePlay, out-stepping leading financial institutions Chase Mobile, Bank of America and Wells Fargo. Likewise, TurboTax is at 6th place in GooglePlay’s best, right above the most ubiquitous peer-to-peer app — PayPal.  Tapering the end of GooglePlay’s Top Ten is Google’s own virtual currency retainer, Google Wallet.

Credit Karma’s naturally maintained its 1st place title on GooglePlay. If we were looking for reasons to explain it being one of the few persisting dominant apps during tax season, we might suspect that tax season and the impetus to check one’s financial six are joined by the hip. Near the back, at 16th and 18th are Western Union Money Transfer and Xoom Money Transfer apps, respectively, reeling in capital from international entrepreneurs.

The rankings, retrieved from App Annie at around 10:00 a.m. today, appear below.
