TD Bank is looking to build out its automation expertise as part of a push to hire 2,000 new technology workers.

The bank, a subsidiary of $1.73 trillion TD Group, is expanding in the U.S. with its acquisition of Memphis, Tenn.-based First Horizon Corp. for $13.4 billion, according to a recent Bloomberg Mercury report. TD said it will hire more than 2,000 technologists this year — more than six times the number it added in 2021 — making it the top-growing Canadian bank in terms of number of new employees.
TD Bank’s technology transformation has led to new capabilities in engineering, automation, artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud technology, along with an advancement of its cybersecurity defenses, a bank spokesperson told Bank Automation News. As the bank continues to move toward cloud-based technologies, skilled tech talent is a key pillar in its strategy, the spokesperson noted.
TD has been focusing on hiring skilled tech talent in cloud, dev ops, machine learning and automation, alongside internal training and re-skilling of current employees.
Application automation engineer
Among open U.S.-based jobs at TD Bank is a platform and application automation engineer and a robotic process automation senior developer, according to recent job postings on the bank’s site.
The platform and application automation engineer must have experience developing and deploying applications with SALT/Ansible experience. Both SALT and Ansible are used for information technology automation, although there are differences.
The engineer will also be responsible for implementing Salt scripting and automation best practices, as well as generating quality documentation and cross-training operating team members. The position also requires working closely with “automation platform architects and leads to develop and optimize automation scripts in support of application.”
Robotic process automation developer
It appears TD Bank is deploying Blue Prism’s RPA solution, since the RPA senior developer position calls for five or more years of “hands-on development/architecture experience in Blue Prism.”
Ideally, the job posting notes, the developer will have experience integrating Blue Prism RPA with other technologies, such as optical character recognition tools and low code platforms such as business process management platforms. It’s worth noting that Blue Prism was recently acquired by fintech SS&C, which announced plans to combine its business process management tool with Blue Prism’s RPA solution.
In addition, TD Bank is seeking to hire an innovative automation and digitalization business systems analyst with at least five years’ experience. The analyst will be expected to “provide support and produce detailed system requirements and technical and functional specifications that align with standards and frameworks.”
