Mambu and Volante partner for cloud-enabled payments integration

Banks and FIs can implement payment products without replacing legacy systems

Banking core provider Mambu announced in January a new partnership with payments fintech Volante Technologies to provide cloud-native payments services for joint financial institution customers.

The collaboration will add new solutions to Berlin-based Mambu’s software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform, including automated clearing house (ACH) transactions and real-time payments capabilities. New Jersey-based Volante’s cloud-native banking and payments strategy made it an ideal partner, Cyrus Taheri, head of partnerships at Mambu, told Bank Automation News.

“We were trying to find an independent payment provider that had a similar philosophy to us, which was cloud-ready, modern and modular,” Taheri said. “If you look around, you’re going to find a lot of those players come from a legacy side, and they’re trying to reinvent themselves.

“Volante is global, robust and they have tier-one banking clients, so they covered the characteristics of what we partner with,” he added. Volante’s banking clients include $1.95 trillion Wells Fargo, $1.46 trillion Goldman Sachs and $2.9 trillion Citigroup, all of which have tapped the fintech’s solutions or invested in its development.

Mambu, which counts banks BancoEstado and SolarisBank among its customers, uses application programming interfaces (APIs) to underpin its banking platform, which allows clients to tailor processes for institution-specific use cases before orchestrating and automating the build. This applies not only to Mambu’s banking offerings, but to payments as well.

Customers will now have access to account-to-account funding with the capability to open accounts and transfer funds in real-time, Taheri said. The expectation is a side-by-side integration and rollout, though some clients may opt for one or the other.

“The fact that you are unlocking the key ingredient, which is data, and you have the APIs to access and orchestrate that, is the basis of Mambu and Volante connecting and creating those new processes,” he said.

Bank Automation Summit, taking place March 1-2 in Charlotte, N.C., is the first and only event to focus solely on automation in banking. The event will feature the brightest minds from across financial services on intelligent automation strategies and deployment. Learn more and register for Bank Automation Summit 2022.
