Apple increased revenue in its payment services in the second quarter ending April 1 as the tech giant focused on its savings account; buy-now, pay-later service; and payments software offerings.

Apple tallied record Q2 revenue across its services, including App Store, Apple Music, iCloud and payment services, Chief Executive Tim Cook said during Apple’s Q2 earnings call Thursday.

The tech giant’s service sales, which include payments and cloud services, totaled $20.9 billion in sales, up 6% year over year, according to the earnings supplement. Apple’s operating expenses also ticked up 9% in the quarter to $13.7 billion.

“What we’re trying to do with our payments work is sort of like what we’ve done on the [Apple Watch], where we’re focused on helping people live a healthier day, on [using] our financial products,” Cook said. “We’re helping people have a better financial health.”

For example, in April, Apple and Goldman Sachs rolled out Apple Card Saving Accounts. These high-yield accounts allow Apple Card holders to build cash rewards, according to a previous Goldman Sachs release. Since the launch, the savings accounts have crossed $1 billion in deposits, according to published reports.

“On the savings account specifically, we are very pleased with the initial response on it,” Cook said.

Also in April, Apple launched Apple Pay Later, which “allows users to split purchases into multiple payments with no interest fees,” Cook said.

On the small business side, Apple reported growth of hardware and software adoption — specifically software for accepting payments on iPhones, Luca Maestri, senior vice president and chief financial officer at Apple, said during the call.

“We’re trying to help our users, but these [payment services] have to stand on their own,” Cook said.
