Bank Automation News breaks down automation-specific job postings by the nation’s biggest banks to glean current growth strategies for bank automation.

Open job postings at State Street suggest the $277 billion bank holding and financial services company is ramping up its automation plans. The Boston, Mass.-based financial institution is hiring for eight automation-related positions, including a senior product manager of automation and artificial intelligence (AI).

The senior product manager will work closely with the vice president and head of automation platform to create and prioritize automation products. The position will also build and maintain a “feature-level product roadmap,” and drive the production of automation.

A key component of the product manager position will be translating between IT and the business to ensure business goals are met. To that end, leadership skills are required to build relationships with key business partners and advocate for the automation platform within the company, according to the posting.

There are technical aspects to the job, as well. State Street uses an agile scrum team approach to development, which means the senior manager must be able to train the platform engineering team on best practices in agile and ensure automation center of excellence (CoE) standards are met. Scrum is a project management framework that helps teams work together.

In general, the positions to be filled at State Street emphasize best practices as two jobs deal with leading an automation related CoE. The project manager of automation and AI will develop a cognitive center of excellence, and the robotic process automation architect and senior manager will play a key role in the automation CoE.

The senior product manager post and related listings at State Street also point to an automation strategy that leverages, at least in part, open-source tools for automation. The new product manager should have experience with open-source development tools such as Visual Studio, IntelliJ and Github, while other automation postings specifically call for Linux experience. Another technical requirement for the job is experience with Jira or similar Agile backlog management tools, such as Azure DevOps, according to the job posting.

In addition to the product manager and two CoE-related positions, State Street is hiring for the following automation positions:

  • AI full stack developer;
  • Quality assurance automation engineer;
  • Security automation and process engineer;
  • Citrix automation engineer; and
  • Front-end quality assurance automation developer.
