Banks have been robbed, well, since banks have been around.

Invariably, in the US a bank robbery begins with a note slid to a teller. But what should a bank robber write? Should he specify amount? How about saying, “thank you?” And what about those nasty dye packs?

Well, wonder no longer, because Bank Notes, a blog, publishes bank robbers’ notes. The notes range from the straightforward — “$250,000” — to those that add a gentle touch — “I have a gun in my bag. Give me $5,000 please. Thanks a bunch.”

The site also indicates which of the notes came from successful robberies — and which did not. (The “thanks a bunch” robber was unsuccessful.) As Bank Notes explains, “Robbing a bank is as simple as putting pen to paper.” And now reading what was put to paper is even simpler.
