Flagstar Bank's modernization brings access to real-time insights

Flagstar Bank 's core modernization is giving it access to real-time data to improve decisions, AI capabilities and reporting. The $87.7 billion bank selected Finxact by Fiserv as its core banking platform, Jason Pope , chief technology officer at Flagstar, told FinAi News . A modern platform offers speed to market, reliability and real-time access to funds and products, Srini Krish , co-head of financial solutions at Fiserv, told FinAi News. Flagstar ’s legacy technology used end-of-day batch processing, delaying reconciliation times, something many banks are beholden to, Pope said. With Finxact, the bank can rely on real-time processing. This means fraud decisions, data, liquidity and risk reporting will be more accurate because they are based on current data, not "yesterday's data," Pope said. Even AI capabilities will be improved because they will be able to reason over live data. Selecting Finxact Deciding to modernize Flagstar and migrate to Finxact was gradual. "When we think of transformation, it didn't start with core," Pope said. The process started with internal discovery and inventory of every application, interface, batch and report. With Finxact selected, the migration will happen in two phases, one in the summer of 2027 and the other in 2028, Pope said. This will add Fiserv to the bank's Flagstar S2 Platform, which stands for simple and sophisticated, according to Pope. S2 is the bank's enterprise technology transformation platform, which consolidates its technology partners on one platform. Vendors on the S2 platform include: Amazon Web Services; Cognizant; Emphasis; Fiserv; Microsoft; Palo Alto; Pega; PwC; and Nest. Core modernization As technology advances, other institutions are making similar moves to modernize legacy systems. BankSouth is moving its core banking platform to financial services provider FIS; and Arise Financial completed its core migration to FIS Miser from Corelation KeyStone.
