Lloyds Banking Group is seeing value from its generative AI spend and looking to double this in 2026 with more training, agentic AI deployment, and cost savings.

In 2025, the $1 trillion London-based Lloyds reported “value” from gen AI reached 50 million pounds ($59.6 million), according to the bank’s 2025 earnings results presentation on Jan. 29. In 2026, that number is expected to reach $119 million.

The $59.6 million in value is broken down through cost savings and partly through revenue generation, Nunn said.

Lloyds reported net Q4 income of $6.9 billion, up 8.5% YoY, and operating costs of $13.5 billion, up 3% YoY.

Lloyds has generated gen AI value partly through cost savings and partly through revenue generation, Nunn said.

“In 2025, we scaled 50 gen AI use cases into full production, demonstrating significant potential and generating GBP 50 million of in-year profit and loss benefit,” Chief Executive Charlie Nunn said during the bank’s earnings call today. “We intend to increase the number of use cases with a particular focus on high-value agentic opportunities.”

In 2025, the bank has deployed AI for:

  • Customer servicing;
  • Internal assistant operations; and
  • Engineering support.

Agentic AI play

Lloyds expects the agentic AI pilots it moves to production this year to “to continue the trend of efficiency,” Nunn said.

Agentic AI will be deployed in 2026 within five focus areas, Rohit Dhawan, Lloyd’s group head of artificial intelligence, said in an article published on the FI’s website Jan. 21:

  • Customer interactions;
  • Back-office operations;
  • Frontline and relationship manager support;
  • Colleague assistance; and
  • Engineering and developer enablement.

The bank is also piloting and testing an investment advice agent, Nunn said.

“It won’t drive massive revenue short term, but it’ll be very sustainable long term,” he said.

AI training

As the bank looks to further deploy AI, it is also providing bootcamps to teach the tech to its employees.

The bank launched its AI Academy last year and plans to provide basic tools for how to use gen AI to 35,000 employees of the bank’s approximately 67,000 employees this year, according to its earnings report.
