BNY is expanding its use of AI and has integrated the tech in its multiyear transformation plan to drive growth and efficiency.

Eliza, the bank’s multi-model agentic AI platform, can act as a copilot for employees and allows them to build individual agentic tools. Eliza is being used by 99% of its workforce, according to BNY’s fourth-quarter earnings report. Employees can use the tool to conduct market research, financial analysis, and generate reports.

Eliza allows BNY employees to focus on higher value work for clients, Vince said.

“These collaborations underscore our commitment to deploying AI responsibly and at scale,” Chief Executive Robin Vince said during today’s fourth quarter earnings call.

“In 2025 we made significant advances in the adoption of AI, underscoring our industry leadership in this burgeoning space built upon very deliberate investments over the past several years,” Vince added.

“We expect, that over time, AI will allow us to remake many of our processes and systems in new and exciting ways.”

Innovation strides

The New York-based bank is collaborating with AI service providers as well as developing tools in-house.

BNY teamed up with Google Cloud in December to use the cloud provider’s agentic AI tools to provide its workforce with the capability to build AI agents for financial analysis and market research. The bank is also working with OpenAI for its other gen AI needs and has a long-standing partnership with chip designer Nvidia to build AI factories.

The bank has also filed 60 AI-related patents in 2025, according to the earnings report.

Through continuous tech modernization efforts, BNY generated $550 million in savings in 2025, the Q4 earnings report stated.

THE BIG PICTURE: AI will have a “multiplier” effect on BNY and will help in unlocking revenue capacity, Vince said, adding that it will allow the bank to do more with existing resources.

The bank has deployed 134 digital employees that run on the Eliza platform for functions including cyber security and documentation, Vince said, adding that it is difficult to put a dollar figure on how much the tech will help the bank grow revenues of save costs in the next one to five years.

“We think that technology has already gotten to a level where it can have a very significant impact, frankly, on all of us, individually and companies and certainly here at BNY,” he said. “In the short term [we are] enthusiastic, medium term [we are] excited and long-term [we are] believing that it will have a significant positive impact.”

BY THE NUMBERS: In Q4, BNY reported:

  • Total revenue of $5.2 billion, up 7% YoY;
  • Non-interest expense of $3.4 billion, essentially flat YoY;
  • Software and equipment expense of $565 million, up 8% YoY; and
  • Full-time employees at 48,100, down 7.1% YoY.

NOTEWORTHY: The bank hired Carolyn Weinberg as its first chief product and innovation officer in January 2025 to aid its AI and product development initiatives.
