Financial services providers are leaning into AI in 2025, including agentic AI, as they look to reduce costs and improve efficiency.

The most common use cases for agentic AI, according to the State of AI in Financial Services: 2025 Trends report, published today by chip maker Nvidia, are:

  • Providing personalized investment advice and financial planning;
  • Automating risk assessment agents; and
  • Offering real-time fraud detection agents.

Nvidia’s agentic AI solution, James, is an “amalgamation of dozens of AI models” that can be deployed within FI operations for specific tasks, such as answering questions, compiling data and assisting customer relations teams, Kevin Levitt, who leads global business development for the financial services industry at Nvidia, told Bank Automation News.

“We’ve got multiple [bank] customers building customer service AI agents on our platform,” Levitt said. James, which launched in September 2024, can be deployed in Nvidia AI factories, in the cloud and on premises, making it easy for banks to use, he said.

Infrastructure investment in AI factories is also positioning banks to take advantage of agentic AI systems that work on vast amounts of data from multiple sources and use sophisticated reasoning to autonomously solve complex, multi-step problems, the report states.

BNY has deployed Nvidia’s AI factories at scale, BAN reported previously.

Nvidia’s bank clients include $980 billion Deutsche Bank and payments giant American Express etc . Levitt declined to disclose which of its bank clients use its agentic AI technology.

Scaling AI

While agentic AI is currently grabbing the attention of FIs, they remain focused on scaling AI and gen AI throughout operations this year, Levitt said.

In the past two years, banks and other financial firms have worked to identify the most useful cases for AI and gen AI, Levitt said. Many banks are seeing return on investment after deploying AI and plan to launch it within a majority of their operations.

According to Nvidia’s report, nearly 50% of FIs globally were using gen AI at the end of 2024, compared to 40% at the end of 2023. The chipmaker surveyed 600 global financial services professionals during the fall 2024 for the report, which record the trends and challenges presented by gen AI. Among the results:

  • 60% are deploying AI for customer relationships like virtual agents and chatbots;
  • 53% are using it to generate research;
  • 53% are deploying it for document processing; and
  • 44% are using it for code generation.

The report states that 70% of companies using AI reported a revenue increase of 5% or more, while 60% said AI helped reduce costs by 5% or more.
