JPMorgan Chase’s chief data and analytics officer sits within its operating committee to keep up with ongoing AI investment and implementation bankwide.

Appointed in June 2023, Chief Data and Analytics Officer Teresa Heitsenrether serves on the $3.7 trillion bank’s operating committee and reports directly to Chief Executive Jamie Dimon and Chief Operating Officer Daniel Pinto, Dimon said Monday in his 2023 letter to shareholders.

“Elevating this new role to the operating committee level … reflects how critical this function will be going forward and how seriously we expect AI to influence our business,” Dimon said. “This will embed data and analytics into our decision-making at every level of the company.”

JPMorgan continues to expand its use of AI, Dimon said. For example, the bank has more than 2,000 AI and machine learning experts and data scientists on its team and has more than 400 use cases of AI and machine learning in production, he said.

“Each of our lines of business has corresponding data and analytics roles so we can share best practices, develop reusable solutions that solve multiple business problems, and continuously learn and improve as the future of AI unfolds,” Dimon said.

As more uses surface, the bank is “recognizing the importance of AI to our business,” he said.

The chief data and analytics officer joined the following titles on the operating committee:

  • Chairman of the board and CEO;
  • Chief risk officer;
  • Chief financial officer;
  • Global chief information officer;
  • Global head of corporate responsibility and chairman of the Mid-Atlantic region:
  • Asset and wealth management CEO;
  • General counsel;
  • Global head of payments;
  • CEO of consumer and community banking;
  • Head of human resources;
  • Co-CEOs of commercial and investment bank;
  • President and COO; and
  • CEO of international consumer banking.

Other financial institutions, including Capital One, HSBC, Morgan Stanley and U.S. Bank, have added AI leadership roles in the past year to keep up with the demand for AI implementation within their institutions.
