Open banking platform BankiFi has named Danny Piangerelli its chief technology officer.

BankiFi launched in North America in June and is looking to digitize and automate processes for small businesses, Piangerelli told Bank Automation News.

“Small businesses don’t care about the minutiae of accounting, they care about getting paid and understanding where their money is, and where to go,” he said. “We’ve built a platform that helps them focus on that.”

The company helps business owners with accounting using integrations with Intuit’s QuickBooks. BankiFi’s business model helps “manage outgoing payments, incoming payments and helping businesses understand their cash flow capital position and cash flow forecasting,” Piangerelli added.

Piangerelli previously served as chief architect at core provider Finastra from 2018 until 2022, after his company Malauzai Software was acquired by Finastra in 2010.

Citigroup hires Credit Suisse’s Welter

Citigroup announced Tuesday that it has named Jens Welter as co-head of banking, capital markets and advisory for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Welter most recently served as co-head of global banking at Credit Suisse, where he had been for 27 years. He will join Citigroup in December.

Welter is a “proven resilient manager who has achieved great success over the years in building formidable teams,” Manolo Falco, co-head of Citigroup’s banking, capital markets and advisory unit, said in a company memo.

Gurandiano promoted at RBC

Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) announced Wednesday that Jason Gurandiano has been promoted to head of U.S. technology banking at RBC Capital Markets.

Gurandiano will help grow the technology business at the Toronto-based firm’s investment banking unit, according to a release. He has served as global head of fintech and a member of the crypto committee since joining the bank in 2015.
